Institute
The Institute was founded in 2012 as the Institute for Pedagogical Professionalization (IPP) with a central focus on the areas of school and evaluation research, especially for the purpose of developing Pedagogical Education NEW. In the following years, the institute was expanded both in terms of personnel and content, and in July 2020 it was renamed the Institute ofEducation Research and Teacher Education (IBP). As an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary institution, the Institute is, together with the Institute for Educational Research and Education, part of the scientific branch of Educational Sciences at the Faculty of Environmental, Regional and Educational Sciences (URBI).

Closely linked to the Institute is the Research Center of Inclusive Education (FZIB). In cooperation with the Pädagogische Hochschule Steiermark and the Kirchliche Pädagogische Hochschule of Diözese Graz-Seckau, methods and strategies for inclusive digital teaching and learning are researched and developed in this collaborative center.
The Center for Professionalization of Early Childhood Educaion and Care (PEP), which is located at the faculty level, is also closely linked to the Institute of Education Research and Teacher Education. At the PEP, a wide variety of scientific research and services are offered to administrations and sponsoring bodies. One focus is on quality assurance and development in child education and care facilities as well as (digital) continuing education measures for elementary education specialists.
The institute also maintains three reference libraries focusing on inclusion and special education, elementary education, educational theory and school research, as well as a testotheque. A video archive combined with a video analysis lab is under construction.
