Research

Research plays an important role at the Department of Education Research and Teacher Education. Within their respective areas of work, Department staff conduct research in particular on issues relating to the professional handling of heterogeneity and diversity in the face of social challenges and pedagogical demands as well as school and teaching development in institutional contexts. In particular, educational, sociological and psychological theories are discussed, further developed and empirically tested. Depending on the respective research project, a variety of research approaches and designs (e.g. intervention designs, large-scale, objective hermeneutics, longitudinal and cross-sectional studies, critical educational theory) are used and different survey methods (e.g. video ethnography, questionnaires, interviews, competence tests) as well as quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods are employed. The combination of educational theory and different empirical approaches, as well as the linking of theory and practice, are of particular concern to us.
